Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has formally resigned from his position as a member of the Legislative Council.
Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has formally resigned from his position as a member of the Legislative Council. The move comes as part of the constitutional requirement that a legislator cannot hold membership in both a state legislature and the Rajya Sabha simultaneously. Kumar is likely to take his oath as a Rajya Sabha member on April 9. With Nitish resigning as MLC, countdown begins for his exit as Bihar CM, reports the Times of India. Sources in the NDA say it was unlikely that Kumar would remain in the seat of power for that long. They are of the view that a change of guard could take place "only after Kharmaas," an unholy month, as per the Hindu calendar, that ends on April 14. Names of many probables are doing the rounds, the frontrunner being Samrat Choudhary, the Deputy Chief Minister who holds the crucial Home portfolio.
