Despite Assam being omitted from Prime Minister Takaichi's July 1-3 visit to India, Northeast India remains central to Japan's strategic partnership. The region is viewed as a vital link for Japan's Free and Open Indo-Pacific vision. Cooperation spans infrastructure, education, investment, and cultural exchanges, with Assam and other Northeastern states actively engaging in these areas. Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's three-day visit to India, which begins on Wednesday, was shifted from Assam's capital, Guwahati, to New Delhi because of "logistical issues". However, the country's Northeast region will be a key focus area of the delegation-level talks led by Prime Ministers Narendra Modi and Takaichi, government officials said on Tuesday. A delegation comprising executives from 50 Japanese companies is accompanying the Japanese prime minister, including automobile giant Suzuki Motor's President Toshihiro Suzuki. The two sides are Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi arrives in India on Wednesday on her maiden visit, in what is being described as a reflection of the shared commitment of both countries to strengthen their special bond. During her three-day visit, Takaichi will participate in the 16th edition of the India-Japan Annual Summit, a mechanism established in 2006 under which the prime ministers of the two countries meet annually, each Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will begin a three-day visit to India on Wednesday, with talks expected to focus on expanding trade and investment, strengthening strategic cooperation and deepening collaboration in critical technologies as New Delhi and Tokyo seek to bolster their partnership.
