Delhi-NCR Weather Today: Rain eases after heavy downpour, IMD forecasts more showers and thunderstorms, check forecast for the coming days

Delhi faces a yellow alert for monsoon rain on Monday, July 6, with forecasts of light to moderate rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Temperatures are expected to remain between 34-36°C for the maximum and 26-28°C for the minimum. Residents are advised to be cautious due to potential disruptions from strong winds and heavy rain, which may cause waterlogging in low-lying areas. Delhi experienced a warm and humid Monday despite light overnight showers even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds over the next 24 hours as conditions turn increasingly favourable for the southwest monsoon to advance further across northwestern India. The city received only isolated light rain during the past 24 hours, with Safdarjung, Delhi’s base weather station, recording 6.4 mm of rainfall till 8.30 am on Monday. Palam received 16.4 mm, Ridge 11.1 mm, Heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds lashed parts of Chandigarh on Monday afternoon, although several areas remained dry, reflecting the localised nature of the ongoing monsoon activity. The spell followed a largely hot and humid start to the day before rain brought temporary relief in parts of the city. Rainfall, however, remained uneven, with some sectors receiving moderate to heavy showers while others recorded little or no precipitation. The maximum temperature settled at 35°C, a decline of 2.9 Widespread rainfall across several Punjab districts on Monday provided relief from the intense heatwave and aided paddy seedling transplantation. Light to moderate showers occurred in Patiala, leading to a drop in temperatures. The Meteorological Department confirmed rain in Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Jalandhar, Muktsar, Patiala, Fatehgarh Sahib, and others, substantially reducing daytime temperatures. A yellow alert is now in effect for four days due to the possibility of further thunderstorms and gusty winds.
