Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced a major institutional expansion in the Union Budget 2026-27. The government proposed the establishment of two new national mental health institutes, to be located in Ranchi and Tezpur. Plans were also announced to create a second campus of the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences in North India.
